2020 Andy and Opie Fishing Tournament to benefit local children in foster care
MILTON, Del. – In Milton, kids grabbed their bait and cast their fishing lines for a chance to win prizes at in the Andy and Opie Fishing Tournament.
“I catched the fish and it ate the hook,” said 5-year-old Kiren Harrison.
On Saturday, the group Techno Goober held the tournament to help raise money for the Lower Delaware Duffle Bag Project an organization that supports local children in foster care.
“They go through so much, so anything that we can do as an organization, we’re happy to do,” said Michele Glanden, an event organizer.
Event organizers say the organization creates unique duffle bags that will go to kids entering foster care in Sussex and Kent counties who need something to take their belongings.
“They give it to the foster cares that go ahead and remove the children from their homes and they’ll give them this bag instead of the trash bag,” said Glanden.
People we spoke to say this tournament was also a chance to just have some fun while making special memories.
“It gives everybody the opportunity to come out and get together during this pandemic,” said Jessica Tims, a parent.
“I want to make sure the kids have those same memories that I had a chance to do when I was that young,” said Frank Payton, an event organizer.
Organizers say Saturday’s event also helped raise money for next year’s Andy and Opie Fishing Tournament.
