Wicomico County Public Schools to gradually transition to in-person learning
WICOMICO CO., Md. — Virtual learning could soon be a thing of the past for some students in Wicomico County Public Schools. That’s according to an announcement from the school district’s Superintendent, Dr. Donna Hanlin, saying that small groups of students will be starting in-person learning in October.
Hanlin says starting on Monday, October 5th, small groups of students in the following programs will start to come back: Special Education, English Language Learner program, Career and Technical Education, secondary math tutoring, and some AP science labs.
We’re told from there, the school district will be working towards gradually bringing in students by grade level, if they choose to return. On October 19th, Pre-K will be brought into classrooms in small numbers, with health and safety precautions, followed by Kindergarten students a week later. Hanlin says other grades and programs will follow in the weeks ahead.
Hanlin notes that before any student can return to school or use school transportation, a COVID-19 Parent/Guardian Agreement must be signed. The link will be provided by the student’s school when the student is identified as part of a group or grade that will be returning.
The school district has posted an updated Recovery Plan to their website, which they are encouraging Parents/Guardians to review here. WCPS says expanded information in some areas of the plan, such as on small groups and health metrics guiding reopening are available for review.
