Trooper crashes while trying to avoid pedestrian in roadway

ONLEY, Va. – A Virginia State Police trooper got into an accident as a result of a pedestrian that was standing in the roadway.

The incident happened just after 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night, when a trooper was responding to an accident on Route 13 of a vehicle in a ditch with unknown injuries. While responding, the trooper encountered a male pedestrian standing in the roadway, and in an attempt to avoid hitting the man, the trooper swerved off the roadway and hit an embankment.

The trooper was not injured in the crash.

The pedestrian, identified as 66-year-old Louis Ewell, was arrested and charged with being drunk in public.
