Traffic stop leads to felony drug charges for Seaford man

DAGSBORO, Del. – Delaware State Police say a traffic stop led to felony drug charges for a Seaford man Wednesday afternoon.

Just after 3 p.m., a trooper on patrol observed a lime green Lincoln passenger vehicle driving on Power Plant Road with no valid registration. The vehicle turned into a private driveway, at which point the trooper initiated a traffic stop.

The front right passenger, identified as 19-year-old Deshawn Godwin, got out of the vehicle, walked toward a parked vehicle in the driveway, and tossed an object under the vehicle. The trooper instructed Godwin to get back into the vehicle, and he complied.

Contact was then made with the 24-year-old male driver, and an investigation ensued. Under the parked car, police found a sandwich bag with approximately 14.32 grams of cocaine, 130 bags of heroin weighing approximately 0.91 grams, and drug paraphernalia. Godwin was also found with an empty bag of heroin in his pant pocket.

Godwin was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in a tier 2 quantity, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence, and three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was later released on his own recognizance.

The driver was charged with failure to have insurance in possession, fictitious tag, and expired tag, and was released.
