UPDATE: Single vehicle crash claims life of Frankford man

9/2 UPDATE: Delaware State Police have identified the victim in this crash as 45-year-old Jerome Ayres Jr. of Frankford.

The crash continues to remain under investigation.

SELBYVILLE, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a crash that killed a Frankford man Monday evening.

According to police, the accident happened just before 9 p.m., on southbound Route 113, just south of McCabe Road. Preliminary investigation has revealed a 45-year-old Frankford man was driving a 2002 Lexus RX300 when for unknown reasons he lost control of the vehicle, veering off the east edge of the roadway and continuing for approximately 250 feet through the center grass median. The vehicle then reentered the roadway, crossing both travel lanes, before leaving the west edge of the roadway and hitting a cluster of trees.

The man was taken to nearby hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced dead. Identification is pending notification of next of kin.
