UPDATE: Serious crash involving DelDOT employees under investigation

1280 Dagsboro Crash New

3:30 p.m. UPDATE: Delaware State Police are investigating a serious crash that injured two Friday morning.

Police say the accident happened just after 9 a.m. on Armory Road, approximately .4 miles north of Murray Road. A 2006 GMC Canyon pickup truck was traveling southbound, approaching a 5-person Department of Transportation maintenance crew, who were all wearing yellow reflective vests, completing work on low hanging trees. Several pieces of DelDOT machinery were positioned on the shoulder with their yellow flashing safety strobes activated.

The driver of the GMC reportedly failed to provide property time and attention to the roadway, causing the right side of the vehicle to travel slightly onto the shoulder, subsequently hitting two DelDOT employees. After the collision, the vehicle continued a short distance before stopping, turning around, and returning to the scene.

Police say a 37-year-old male DelDOT employee was taken to the hospital by ambulance for serious injuries and was released. The second employee, a 20-year-old man, was taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He was also released.

The driver of the GMC was not injured. He was charged with inattentive driving and no insurance.
