Residents in Sussex County help raise childhood cancer awareness
LAUREL, Del. – Today, people from across Sussex County got together to help raise awareness about childhood cancer.
After a car parade from Seaford to Laurel, residents gathered at the Laurel American Legion Post 19. While at the event, community members got the chance to donate money for research and patient programs at Nemours.
Families impacted by cancer tell us this event was also an opportunity for the community to just come together and support each other.
“It takes a village to spread the word, to bring the awareness that is needed and advocate for us to have better treatments for our children,” said the event organizer, Laralyn Willey.
“It’s an honor just to even be here to meet some of the other mothers and like Laralyn said we’re just so close in conversations,” said Christina Haynes, founder of the 4Troy Foundation.
“It’s definitely got us through,” said Haynes.
Organizers say the community has helped raise over 1,300 dollars. If you missed out on today’s event and you’d still like to send a donation you’re encouraged to reach out to Laralyn Willey through the Facebook page called ColeStrong.
