New Harriet Tubman sculpture could be coming to the Dorchester County courthouse
CAMBRIDGE, Md. – Today, people in Dorchester County held a community conversation about commissioning their own Harriet Tubman sculpture and bringing it to the county courthouse grounds.
The meeting took place outside of the courthouse.
Organizers say the project called Harriet’s Journey Home is being led by the Alpha Genesis Community Development Corporation.
People spoke about the impact that a Harriet Tubman sculpture that’s temporarily standing outside the courthouse has made on the community. So, they’re hoping to bring in a permanent one that reminds everyone around about the abolitionist and some of her core values.
“That’s the important thing is to have a statue of Harriet Tubman at our courthouse,” said Adrian Holmes, the founder of Alpha Genesis Community Development Corporation.
“You would hope that there is correlation in those core values that Harriet Tubman had in equal justice, liberty…,” said Holmes.
Holmes says they are looking for experts in grant writing, major fundraising, and more to help make this project a reality. For more information on how you can help you’re encouraged to contact Adrian Holmes through the Facebook page called Alpha Genesis CDC.
