Local artist seeks to empower women through her handcrafted dolls
CAMBRIDGE, Md. – In Dorchester County, a local artist is pushing to uplift women through her dolls.
Artist Adrian Holmes is now showcasing her “I Am My Sister Dolls” at the Dorchester Center for the Arts.
According to the center, the dolls represent the beauty and style of women who have shaped who we are today.
Holmes says her dolls represent resiliency as well as her life experiences and she says she hopes to bring positivity amid the pandemic and current social unrest.
“I started off with black women, but then I saw the need for all women to see themselves in a more beautiful light with the scraps of things that we throw away that we don’t think are important,” said Holmes.
The “I Am My Sister Dolls” will be showcased at the Dorchester Center for the Arts until September 26.
