Live Green: Real Raw Organics
OCEAN CITY, MD- Kombucha has been in the spotlight over the past couple of years as this fizzy drink offers many health benefits like improving digestion. But, in Ocean City, kombucha at Real Raw Organics also supports a healthy environment. This week on Live Green Meteorologist Sloane Haines spoke to Logan Willey of Real Raw Organics.
Real Raw Organics does more than make kombucha. While promoting a healthy lifestyle, they raise awareness about the environment through composting, recycling and organizing events like beach clean ups.
“I think our town has a good initiative of trying to get the beach cleaner and put out signs that say “leave only your footprints.” But, there’s really only so much you can do. I think that if you live somewhere, anywhere, then you should be cleaning up your community,” said Logan Willey.
This shop continues to do more by fighting for change. The owner tells us that she and other local business owners are trying to bring back recycling while thinking about cost.
“The next step is to take it to the private sector like without the town. And we’ll see if it works and see if we can make it financially viable by selling the aluminum or cardboard. Just making it as profitable as possible just so that it can pay for itself,” explained Willey.
Real Raw Organics has taken it upon themselves to have consumers reduce, reuse and recycle. You can compost your plant based takeout containers or bring your kombucha glasses back to the shop to be reused.
“If somebody brings back their old jars or even like your own cup, we’ll put in 16 ounces and every 16 ounces is four dollars. And if you don’t have your container, then it’s $5. So we give you a discount for being eco-conscious,” said Willey.
Real Raw Organics truly practices the green lifestyle they preach – hoping to start a big, green conversation on Delmarva.
