“It’s a blessing”: Milford veteran receives new roof

MILFORD, Del. – A husband and wife, who are both veterans, received a new roof on their Milford home for free on Tuesday.

Angel Ortiz-Delgado says he applied for a program known as Operation Homefront because his roof needed major repairs but he and his family were experiencing some financial hardships. The program helps military families cover the costs of rent or mortgage, utilities, home repairs, car repairs and/or groceries.

Ortiz-Delgado says after applying, the process was pretty quick and it all came to fruition with the help of Ferris Home Improvements and Owens Corning. He says he’s very thankful to know that this maintenance on his home is complete.

“It’s a blessing. You don’t know how much of a stress relief it is to be able to find out that I’m actually receiving this help. I get a little teary just thinking about it. But it’s really hard when you’re having to struggle and you don’t know what to do because at the end of the day, I’m not concerned about myself. I’m more worried about my wife and my daughter,” says Angel Ortiz-Delgado.

Since 2016, more than 200 military members have received new roofs through the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project.
