Indian River School District employee honored with award

SELBYVILLE, Del. – The Indian River School District is celebrating after one of their own was honored by Governor John Carney for helping the community.

Cliff Toomey, the Superintendent of Nutrition Services, was honored as a Delaware “first chance” award recipient. We’re told this award honors leaders and teams that stepped up to keep feeding Delaware children when school buildings were forced to close from mid-March through June due to the COVID-19 pandemic. IRSD says Mr. Toomey established numerous community pick-up sites where families could receive free meals during the school closure and served over 200,000 meals to families.
