First loggerhead sea turtle nest of 2020 hatches

BERLIN, Md. – Assateague Island National Seashore officials say the first loggerhead sea turtle nest of 2020 has hatched.

Following the hatch, park staff collected data from the nest site, which will be used to improve the understanding of loggerhead sea turtle biology here in Maryland. We’re told the two remaining nests are expected to hatch in the upcoming weeks. One nest is on the north end of the island, while the other is located on the southern portion of the OSV area.
