Code Purple Sussex County seeks shelters for homeless population

SUSSEX CO., Del. – As the cold weather approaches, Code Purple Sussex County is pushing harder to find space to shelter the homeless amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Code Purple Sussex County says they depend on churches and businesses to donate their space in order to help the homeless during the winter, but some of them haven’t agreed to open their doors yet due to the pandemic.
So, Code Purple is asking people to help out. They’re also looking at hiring people so that they’re able to get the help they need.
“A lot of our churches are older buildings and they don’t have the airflow that they need,” said Susan Kent, the executive director of Love INC, of Mid-Delmarva.
“So, we are seeing that when we need an increase in the number of sites, we will see a potential loss of sites this year due to COVID,” said Kent.
However, the group says some organizations are stepping up to the plate and are offering space like Grace Baptist Church in Seaford.
