Wicomico Co. teacher recognized as one of the top science teachers in the nation

SALISBURY, Md. – A Wicomico County teacher has been recognized as one of the top science teachers in the country.

On Tuesday, it was publicly announced that Hemalatha Bhaskaran, who is also the 2020 Teacher of the Year, was honored with the 2020 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. She received the honor ten days ago, but officials say they had to keep it a secret until the honor was officially announced in a White House virtual announcement late Monday afternoon.

Wicomico County Public School leaders say they could not be more proud, as she represents the very best in science teaching at James M. Bennett High School.
