Weather Tidbits: Corona
We turn to coronas on this Weather Tidbits. A corona (meaning crown in Spanish) is a series of rings concentrically surrounding the disk of the sun or moon. They are usually caused when light passes through a cloud, that is diffracted by water droplets in the cloud. Coronas are better seen with the moon than sun due to the blinding brightness of the sun; and mid-levels clouds are the best producers of the event.
