MILLSBORO, Del. – Police say a traffic stop Tuesday evening led to the discovery of drugs and a handgun.

At around 7:30 p.m., a trooper initiated a traffic stop on DuPont Boulevard in the area of Washington Street after observing that the driver was not properly restrained. A computer check revealed that the driver, identified as 32-year-old Ryan Selby, had a suspended driver’s license.

An inventory search of the vehicle was being conducted prior to it being towed, at which point a 9mm handgun was found inside the glove compartment. The handgun was loaded with 13 bullets and had an obliterated serial number. In addition, Selby was found in possession of 10 bags (approximately .070 grams) of heroin.

He was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of a deadly weapon by person prohibited who also possesses a controlled substance, possession of a weapon with a removed, obliterated, or altered serial number, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled or counterfeit substance, driving while suspended or revoked, and several other drug and traffic related offenses.

Selby was held at SCI on a $12,902 cash only bond.
