Taylors Island Volunteer Fire Company hosts fundraiser to purchase new equipment
TAYLORS ISLAND, Md. – Community members gathered at the Slaughter Creek Marina to help raise money for the Taylors Island Volunteer Fire Company.
This comes after their boat docking challenge event got canceled this year.
Sunday’s fundraising event was held drive-thru style.
According to Anna Grossnickle, the coronavirus pandemic has made it harder for the fire company to hold fundraisers.
People got the chance to enjoy a delicious pit beef sandwich and fries.
Event proceeds will go towards a new engine for the fire company, says Grossnickle.
Congressman Andy Harris spoke at the fundraising event as well.
He says it is crucial for first responders to get the support they need.
“They’re appreciative that they get the recognition they need and the support they need to keep on going protecting our communities, protecting our people and I urge everyone to just keep supporting our volunteer fire companies,” said Harris.
Congressman Andy Harris tells 47ABC he is looking at coming up with new legislation at the federal level that will help our fire companies.
If you missed out on Sunday’s event and would still like to donate to the fire company you can contact them through their Facebook page called Taylor’s Island Volunteer Fire Company.
