Rehoboth Beach Mayor-elect reveals future plans for city
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – Stan Mills says he’s not new to the game when it comes to dealing with Rehoboth Beach’s government. And after previously serving as a commissioner for the city for 12 years, he’s ready to take on his next role as mayor.
“Having experience, I’m ready to hit the ground running,” said Mayor-elect, Stan Mills.
In a little bit over a month, Mills will be sworn in as Rehoboth’s next mayor. And he tells 47 ABC his main priority will be helping the city’s businesses and economy get through and recover from the pandemic.
“We need to deal with the financial impacts of the city. We have to take a look at which capital projects that need to be cut, have to be cut.”
Mills says he understands businesses in the area are hurting right now. Which is why he wants business owners to be more involved in the process when it comes to making decisions that may affect them.
“We have two business groups in town, the Chamber of Commerce and Main Street has yet to be invited to the table and I’d like to get them to the table. I believe in the collaborative approach that by getting more people to the table we get more perspectives, more ideas, and that’ll be the key to success,” said Mills.
Pandemic aside, Mills also has plans to improve the city’s infrastructure primarily on Wilmington and Baltimore Avenue.
“I think it’s time to work on the side streets to bring them up to the same high level of quality and visuals that Rehoboth Avenue has.”
But he says his biggest goal of all as mayor, will be to create more transparency between the city and residents.
“The power comes from the people and to empower them they need to be able to witness our meetings, they need to be able to get accurate information.”
In a statement regarding the recent election results, current mayor Paul Kuhns wrote, “Congratulations to the newly elected officials. I also want to thank city election staff Donna Moore and Jean Lee. Thank you to the two other candidates Hugh Fuller and Rachel Macha. And a huge thank you to all the volunteers and the voters.”
Mills will be sworn into office on Friday, September 18th at the regular commissioners meeting.
