CAMBRIDGE, Md. – Cambridge police say a man is facing charges after he allegedly tried to set a building on fire.

On Thursday around 12:20 in the afternoon, police say they responded to Mako Drive after receiving a report of a man trying to set that garage on fire. When they arrived, a resident was trying to put out a vehicle that was burning inside of the attached garage.

Further investigation revealed that the victim knew the alleged fire-started, identified as Joe Winbush. Police say the victim and two other people were inside of the home at the time, and heard what they described as an object striking the house and glass breaking. Winbush also allegedly told one of the victims that they were going to die that day.

Officers found Winbush a short time later hiding in nearby woods. On scene, they say they also found a bottle with what appeared to be lighter fluid inside.

The fire was extinguished by a responding fire company, and Winbush was arrested and charged with attempted murder, arson, and related charges.
