Pocomoke City Has A New Mayor

POCOMOKE CITY, Md  – Pocomoke City has elected a new mayor, and it is Susan Marshall Harrison and she is set to take office next week.

Susan Marshall Harrison says she wants to bring people together and put the past behind them.

“There’s been a lot of divisiveness in our city for many different reasons and I really want to put that behind us,” Harrison said.

Marshall Harrison says she wants to build strong relationships with everyone in the community and make sure everyone’s voice is heard.

“I’m really hoping to build a relationship with our citizens and our businesses, they can come to me to my office on a daily basis or weekly basis and sit down and have a good conversation about issues and concerns,” Harrison said.

Business owner George Richards in Pocomoke says Harrison is the first political candidate he has ever supported.

“I’m very hopeful, I’ve supported her from the very beginning and I think that she can make a difference. She really cares about the people in the city,” Richards said.

Harrison, who was born and raised in Pocomoke, tells us she wants more diversity among city leadership,  and it’s a goal she will continue to strive for

“We want to have a diversity on our council. I would also like to see more diversity in our staff positions and diversity of course in our public works. That is a main goal, diversity is very important and I’m 100% for that and we’ll work towards that goal,” said Harrison.

Harrison says she doesn’t want to rush anything though, instead she wants to take time and make the right decisions for the city and the community.

“It’s a day to day challenge, I feel like that I can’t make a prediction way into the future because I want to move one day at a time,” Harrison said.

Pocomoke has approximately 2500 voters and on Tuesday 25.5 percent of them showed up. Harrison says she wants to make a change in here and get more people actively involved.

Marshall Harrison says she also wants to address the rusty pipes in Pocomoke and On top of that, she wants to bring organizations like the Boys and Girls Club or Salvation Army to the area.

Harrison beat out Jackie Ward and Mike Shannon, Harrison took 320 votes while Shannon received 250 votes and Ward received 98.
