Lewes man arrested for stealing bicycle
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – Police arrested a Lewes man Monday afternoon in connection to a theft that happened late last month.
Police say during the early evening hours of July 30th, the 80-year-old female victim parked her beach cruiser style bicycle along a white privacy fence outside the Royal Farms in the 400 block of Rehoboth Avenue, securing it in place with a bicycle lock. The following morning, she woke up to find the lock broken and the bike missing.
Through the use of surveillance footage and eye witness information, police were able to identify the suspect responsible as 54-year-old Paul Croft III. A warrant was issued for his arrest.
Police say Croft turned himself in Monday afternoon and was charged with one count of theft under $1500 where the victim is 62 years of age or older, and one count of criminal mischief. He was released on his own recognizance. The bicycle has not been recovered at this time.
