Holloway withdraws his name from Wico. County Exec. race

SALISBURY, Md –  The list of applicants for the Wicomico County Executive position got a little shorter Tuesday after Councilman Joe Holloway pulled his name from consideration.

The most recent list released by council president Larry Dodd shows Holloway’s name with a strikethrough, and the word withdrawn next to it with an asterisk.

An explanation followed, saying that Holloway had asked for legal research to be done to determine whether the council could vote for him since he’s a sitting council member.

We’re told the County Attorney and Council Attorney researched this matter and, according to Maryland case law and an Attorney General’s opinion, it was determined that his fellow council members would not be able to vote for him. Because of that Holloway pulled his name from consideration.

Holloway also issued a statement saying in part that he thanks everyone for their support and looks forward to working with the new county executive.

With Holloway gone, that now leaves Del. Carl Anderton Jr. (R) (D38B), Dr. Rene Desmarais, and former county employee Michele Ennis in the running.

All three will be interviewing in front of the council on Thursday night at the civic center at 5:30.
