Dr. Rene Desmarais named the new Wicomico County Executive

SALISBURY, Md. — In what some are calling a surprising move tonight, the Wicomico County Council has voted to make Dr. Rene Desmarais the new county executive.

Desmarais is a cardiologist in Salisbury. He previously ran as republican unsuccessfully in 2014 for the District 37B seat in the House of Delegates.

The  council voted 4 to 3 in favor of Desmarais’ appointment.

We’re told Desmarais is set to start some time after the council’s next meeting, set for September 1st.
