UMES student to serve on University System of Maryland’s Board of Regents

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – For only the third time in University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s history, a student has been sworn in to serve on the University System of Maryland Board of Regents.

Aaliyah Edwards, who is a rising junior, will serve as a non-voting member on the Board for this school year as she prepares to be a voting member next year. UMES officials tell 47 ABC that her story is a unique one, as she was born in Trinidad/Tobago and emigrated to this country with her mother when she was five.

Edwards says she wanted the position on the board because she wanted to help peers who might be unsure of how to navigate challenges they might face.
