Two arrested for robbery, assault in Lewes
LEWES, Del. – Delaware State Police arrested two women after they reportedly stole merchandise from Home Depot.
We’re told the incident happened at around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday. Troopers responded to the store and made contact with a 49-year-old female store employee who was assaulted as a result of the incident. It was learned that a suspect, identified as 42-year-old Nakeisha Ammons, loaded a shopping cart full of merchandise and left through the Garden Center doors without paying. The store employee asked Ammons for her receipt as she left, but Ammons ignored her and walked to her vehicle in the parking lot.
The store employee followed Ammons to her vehicle and told her she was not getting away with all the stolen merchandise, at which point 29-year-old Breanna Verdon, who was waiting for Ammons in the parking lot, physically assaulted the store employee. Witnesses were able to obtain a good description of the vehicle and both suspects.
The employee sustained a small laceration to her eye as a result of the incident, but did not require medical treatment.
On Monday, the two suspects were arrested at their residence in the 500 block of Little Creek Drive in Laurel. They were each charged with second degree robbery, second degree conspiracy, and shoplifting.
Verdon was released on a $7,000 unsecured bond, while Ammons was released on a $7,500 unsecured bond.
