Traffic stop in Dover leads to discovery of drugs and a weapon
DOVER, Del.– On Saturday Delaware State Police arrested 30-year-old Markus King after a traffic stop on South DuPont Highway.
Police say the incident occurred on Saturday, July 18, at approximately 2:25 p.m when they observed King’s car making an improper lane change.
A traffic stop was initiated and contact was made with the driver.
Troopers smelled an odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and detained King for further investigation.
Police say after they searched the car they found a Loaded Springfield .45 caliber handgun with an extended magazine, approximately 15.81 grams of marijuana, and around 1.93 grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms, a digital scale and over $700.00 in suspected drug proceeds.
Troopers then took King back to Troop 3 without incident where he was charged.
He was charged with the following felonies, Possession of a Deadly Weapon by Person Prohibited and Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon.
King was also charged with Possession of Marijuana, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Speeding, and Improper Lane Change.
King was then later arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and was released on $9,502.00 unsecured bond.
