Toys For Tots making changes due to the pandemic

DELAWARE — Toys for Tots is making some changes to this year’s event because of the pandemic.

They are expecting a record number of requests from kids in need this year and they are also placing a unique set of protocols for volunteers to observe while they are picking up donation boxes as well as interacting with donors. They also say the situation with COVID-19 shouldn’t stop anyone from donating.

Event Organizer Jeff Horn says that they are trying to reach out to as many families as they can. “A lot of people will not be able to provide a Christmas for their kids like they normally do so we are looking to fill that gap,” says Horn

Organizers are hosting a volunteers campaign on August 1st, and they’re looking for as many volunteers as they can get.  Last year they distributed nearly 16,000 toys to 3,000 children throughout Sussex County and they are expecting that to increase with this years event.
