Talbot County Public Schools raising money to close digital divide with campaign
TALBOT COUNTY, Md.- Talbot County Public Schools are looking for help to raise money to help close the digital divide that’s impacted students learning during the pandemic.
Recently, they came up with a Digital Divide Campaign with the goal of raising $60,000 dollars.
We’re told that when the county when to virtual learning a disparity was highlighted between children who have access to internet and computers and those that don’t.
In scenarios where children didn’t have access, educators said some students simply called it quits. .
“Basically, giving up when there’s no reason for that to happen, but if these students have adequate contact with their teachers, their peers, with group learning situations they have, their parents have adequate contact with their teachers, we can prevent that inequity,” Rebecca Firth, Co-chair of Talbot Co. Public Education Foundation, said.
So far, they have raised about $15,000 dollars.
