State releases $2.3 million in first round of Eviction Prevention Grants

SALISBURY, Md. – Maryland Governor Larry Hogan announced eight counties in the state will receive more than $2 million dollars in the first round of Maryland Eviction Prevention Partnership grants.
The governor says this money will help families in need stay safe and secure during the coronavirus pandemic.
Wicomico County will be getting $1 million dollars and Somerset County will get $100,000 dollars.
According to Wicomico County officials, the funds will be split by three sub-recipients, with about $177,000 dollars going to MAC Inc. and $500,000 to the Wicomico County Local Management Board and Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County.
“Overall, we’re truly excited for this opportunity,” said Wicomico County Planning, Zoning & Community Development Director Lori Carter.
“Unfortunately, we’re doing this during a very difficult time for a lot of our residents and we’re just hoping that this is something that will help them along the way as they’re trying to gain their footing again,” said Carter.
Officials say because Salisbury received their own rental assistance funds as an entitlement community residents there are not eligible for this first round of rental assistance.
Applications will be accepted starting August 3rd.
