“Something like this could be revolutionary for healthcare providers”- PRMC doctor speaks on new reusable face masks
SALISBURY, Md.- As COVID cases rise, there is still an urgent need for N95 masks for healthcare workers, but that problem could soon be solved.
CNN said that researchers at MIT have created a reusable face mask that works like an N95 respirator called iMASC.
CNN also said that the mask is silicone and can be safely reused without fear of contamination.
The mask includes an N95 filter, but requires much less N95 material than a traditional N95 mask.
A lead doctor for the COVID unit at PRMC said this is something he would like to see in the future.
“Something like this could be revolutionary for healthcare providers, I think it would be wonderful, I think whatever we can do to improve the longevity of the providers being able to manage these difficult patients would be great,” Dr. Chris Snyder, Chief Quality Officer and lead doctor on the COVID unit at PRMC, said.
They are working to establish the company to support scaled up production and seek approval from the FDA.
