Somerset Co. Health Department announces opening of cooling centers

WESTOVER, Md. – With temperatures in the upper 90s and heat index values well over 100 degrees, the Somerset County Health Department has announced the opening of cooling centers in the county to help residents in need.

St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, located at 9100 Deal Island Road in Wenona, will be open from 2 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Monday.

Additionally, the Lower Somerset Rescue and Ambulance Squad, located at 2 Mill Lane in Crisfield, will be open from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, and the Greenwood Elementary School Gymnasium, located at 11412 Dryden Road in Princess Anne, will be open from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Masks will be required for entry. Residents will need to bring their own mask, food, beverages, and medications. Pets are not allowed.
