School districts formulate reopening plans as fall approaches
WESTOVER, Md. – Maryland educators are doing all they can to bring all students back to school in some capacity this upcoming fall.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, many of the nation’s doctors are advocating for children to return to the classroom this fall for their well-being.
Somerset County Superintendent Dr. John Gaddis says although he agrees that it is crucial they return keeping both students and staff physically healthy is a top priority.
He says there are also concerns about teachers who are vulnerable to the virus and that right now there’s still a lot of uncertainty.
“Our goal is to have students come back; however, if we don’t get to stage three or we have a setback, we have to keep in mind that can all change because in the end I have to keep every student and every staff safe,” said Somerset County Superintendent Dr. John Gaddis.
Superintendent Dr. John Gaddis says their goal is to bring all students back in a traditional model or in a hybrid model where there’s an A and B schedule allowing for smaller groups.
He adds staff is also looking at any classroom information missed in the spring to be integrated into the fall in order to close the education gap.
