Ocean Police Dept. hosts Cover the Cruiser Law Enforcement Torch Run Event

OCEAN CITY, Md. – The Ocean City Police Department wrapped up its second annual Cover the Cruiser Law Enforcement Torch Run Fundraising Event today on the boardwalk.

The event, which began Friday, raises money to support the Maryland Special Olympics.

Participants donated money or bought Special Olympics merchandise from the police department.

They also placed a sticky note or pledge card on a police car.

Police also tell 47ABC that this event is a chance for people to learn more about Special Olympics and that it’s been a tough year so far with fundraising due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“All of the fundraiser events are important to the organization because it helps to provide year-round sports and training opportunities for the athletes free of charge especially this year with COVID being around it has been an extremely difficult year with fundraising,” said the Ocean City Police Department Deputy Communications Manager Ashley Miller.

The Ocean City Police Department says they are selling the Special Olympics merchandise at their front desk so that they can continue these fundraising efforts.
