First time ever scholarships given out in honor of two OCPD officers who passed in plane crash

OCEAN CITY, Md.- The first time ever two scholarships were handed out in honor of two Ocean City Police officers who passed away in a tragic accident.

Officers Josh Adickes and Tommy Geoghegan passed away in a plane crash seven years ago, and every year since then their friends and family have gathered in Ocean City for a bonfire memorial.

This year the bonfire held a special meaning as two officers were awarded the first ever Josh and Tommy Memorial Scholarship.

Each scholarship is $1,000 dollars and is being used to help two seasonal police officers earn their college degree.

Ryan Whittington, who co-organized the fund, said after seven years he’s happy people are still supporting the cause.

“It’s just a special feeling knowing that the community still remembers it, the community is still willing to honor them, people are still contributing to the fund through the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore supporting law enforcement officers who want to grow their career,” Whittington said.

Whittington said the fund is an endowment with the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore, so they plan to continue to award these scholarships annually.
