Downtown Berlin contest offers prize for wearing masks

BERLIN, Md. – Berlin officials are hoping a new contest will encourage people to wear face masks when they’re visiting downtown.

The campaign is called “Berlin MASKerade” and is being promoted by the chamber of commerce. To participate, just post a selfie or picture wearing a face mask in downtown Berlin and make sure to use the #BerlinMASKerade hashtag. With every post you’ll be entered to win a one hundred dollar Berlin Bucks voucher which can be used at any of the downtown restaurants and shops. Officials say they wanted to find a fun way to promote staying safe during the pandemic.

“I see a lot of people wearing masks and I think they are doing the right thing and they are here in Berlin and they are having a good time. We thought it would be a great idea to reward people for doing the right thing,” says Ivy Wells with Berlin’s Economic and Community Development.

If you post, make sure it’s public and you’ll know you’ve been entered once you see a “like” from the Downtown Berlin social media accounts on Facebook or Instagram. The winner will be picked randomly on July 27th.
