DOVER, Del. – Delaware officials say students are facing a growing achievement gap because of the coronavirus pandemic. So, they are inviting them to participate in this year’s National Summer Learning Week.

The National Summer Learning Week began today and ends on Sunday.

The celebration was launched in Delaware by the Delaware First Lady Tracey Quillen Carney, Delaware Libraries and United Way of Delaware.

Kids will get the chance to participate in unique online activities through the Delaware Libraries website.

Their goal is to help students improve their reading scores and get them prepared for the upcoming school year.

“There’s been some interruption in education and summer reading has always been really important to prevent the summer slide, but we want the children to read, read, read not only to prevent summer slide, but to up those reading scores and to help them,” said State Librarian Dr. Annie Norman.
