Two-day blood drive coming to Ocean City
OCEAN CITY, Md. – The Blood Bank of Delmarva is holding a blood drive in Ocean City this week in hopes of strengthening the region’s blood supply.
The drive will be held on Wednesday, June 24th, and Thursday, June 25th, at the Ocean City Convention Center. The event will start at 9 a.m. each day. Donors are required to schedule appointments in advance in order to maintain social distancing.
Officials with the Blood Bank say they hope to collect 250 units over the two-day event, which is enough to treat 700 patients in need. Before COVID-19, blood drives hosted by schools, organizations, and businesses made up around 40 percent of the region’s incoming blood supply, however all drives had to be canceled due to the pandemic, leaving the Blood Bank far below the number of drives needed per month at area hospitals.
