Tropical Tidbits: Rip Currents

Today’s topic focuses on rip currents and what to do if you encounter one. Rip currents are powerful, narrow channels of fast moving water that moves directly away from the shore. When a person encounters a rip current, the best thing to do is swim parallel to the coast to escape it. A rip current forecast is broken down into three categories which are low, moderate and high. A moderate risk means exercise caution; while a high risk means that everyone should avoid the water due to its dangerous conditions.
