“Stand Up Delaware” urges Governor John Carney to lift restrictions

Milton, DE – A group formally known as “Delawareans Against Excessive Quarantine,” now “Stand Up Delaware,” gathered on Sunday, May 31st to celebrate how far they have come with restrictions being lifted in the state — but reminding everyone how much work they think still needs to be done.

Effective today, June 1st, in Delaware restaurants and businesses can reopen for outdoor seating, following strict health and social distancing guidelines. But a member of the group says they think this phase should have happened a long time ago.

According to “Stand Up Delaware,” with the current restrictions placed on restaurants – like only offering outdoor dining  and having to use paper products – some restaurants will not be able to stay afloat.

“Restaurants will not be able to make a profit with these restrictions. They won’t,” says Lisa McCully, a member of the activist group. “They are going to lose more money. We need to move on from this and allow Americans to use their own common sense. They are adults. Let them run their own businesses. They government does not own their businesses, they do.”

McCully says their next step is now to focus on schools and make sure they reopen in the fall without certain restrictions, like masks.

Governor John Carney has addressed this concern saying he will reopen the state in a manner that is safe under the information he is given from the department of health.
