New energy efficient affordable homes coming to Easton
EASTON, Md. – Housing officials are continuing revitalization efforts in Easton by proving more affordable housing opportunities. Right now, the Talbot County Housing Authority is partnering with contractors to build brand new net-zero energy-efficient homes for nine families in the area. The homes will include things like solar panels, triple pane windows, and high energy-efficient heating and cooling systems that will cost residents virtually nothing to operate. Housing officials say the $3 million project is being funded through the state of Maryland and will be the first of its kind built in the state.
“If you can create something that’s affordable and both energy efficient, you don’t have to have the folks who would typically be your residents, having to apply for other programs to help them maintain their daily lifestyle, so it’s a win-win for everybody,” said Talbot County Housing Authority Executive Director, Don Bibb.
Bibb adds that he expects the housing project to be completed by the end of the year.
