Milford community members join Walk of Change protest
MILFORD, Del. – Community members came together for a peaceful demonstration through the Downtown area on Sunday.
The event called the Walk of Change aimed to honor the lives of all the black men and women who have been unjustly killed by police officers.
The organizer, Jalyn Powell, says they want equal justice for all.
She says changes need to be made in the criminal, educational and healthcare systems so that all people have the same opportunities.
And Powell says they’ll do whatever it takes to let their voices be heard.
“Through history, the African American and minorities have been excluded from conversations that impact us and we don’t necessarily have to have a microphone, we don’t necessarily have to be on the forefront, but we will always find innovative ways to get our message across,” said Powell
Powell adds that she’s also planning on holding events where millennials can learn more about politics in the future, and she is also encouraging them to vote and help put people who represent them in office.
