Local nurse earns Daisy Award for helping patient in crisis

SALISBURY, Md. – One local nurse recently earned a Daisy Award for going above and beyond for a patient in crisis.

Peninsula Regional Medical Center says Melissa Wiley had a patient who needed to be transferred quickly to a specialty hospital. We’re told that patient needed blood on standby though, just in case she took a turn for the worst. The emergency medical personnel transferring the patient were not able to perform a blood transfusion, so Wiley went along for the ride, and ended up working a 15 hour shift just to make sure her patient got the safest and most rapid care possible.

Wiley was presented with the Daisy Award in a ceremony before her colleagues.
