Gun sales on the rise amid nationwide protests
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – A few months ago, some local gun stores reported seeing a rise in gun sales during the pandemic. Now, Wink’s Sporting Goods in Princess Anne says they’re seeing another increase in sales as protests erupt across the country.
Jamie Wink, the owner of the store, says he’s seen an increase in first-time gun buyers since protests have started.
He says people have bought shotguns for home protection and some of his customers have been curious about handguns.
Wink says that people felt uneasy when the pandemic started, and felt more secure with some personal protection, and that he thinks that’s why people are buying guns again now.
“People are unsure where we’re headed, having a firearm in the house gives you that sense of security, when we’re in an uneasy situation you don’t really know where we’re headed,” he said.
Wink says if someone is interested in becoming a gun owner, they should make sure to do that safely. He says anyone interested in purchasing a gun and who has questions can always stop by Wink’s Sporting Goods.
