Fundraiser raises $13k+ for Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company
CHINCOTEAGUE ISLAND, Va. – In Chincoteague, community members are doing everything they can to help the volunteer fire company after the annual pony penning, a major fundraiser for them, was canceled.
Denise Bowden, with the town’s volunteer fire company, says because of the cancellation, the fire department is going to take a massive financial hit. To help, Bowden started a fundraiser on Facebook with a goal of raising five hundred dollars, but now that fundraiser has raised over thirteen thousand dollars.
Bowden says she’s thrilled to see the support from the community for a fire company that does so much for everyone else.
“The community has always rallied around Chincoteague Fire Company, and thank goodness, because we can’t do it without them, they can’t do it without us, it’s a symbiotic relationship,” she said.
