GEORGETOWN, Del. – One Delaware restaurant isn’t letting coronavirus stop them from celebrating the 4th of July, and they’re doing it in a big way.

Fat Daddy’s BBQ is hosting a fireworks show on the holiday, complete with music and food from local vendors, including ice cream from the Frozen Farmer.

Brenda Frey, the co-owner of the restaurant, says she and her husband watched as other locations cancelled their Fourth of July plans during the pandemic, and said they knew they had to find a way to celebrate.

Now, they’re inviting any and everyone to their restaurant’s 32-acre outdoor space for the event, which Frey says is not focused on the coronavirus, but is rather all about the men and women who fought for our country.

“It’s about our freedom, it’s about the red white and blue, it’s about the men and women that have served, we can’t forget them, the people that are serving, and then we still have a generation of people that are going to serve,” Frey said.

Frey says Fat Daddy’s BBQ got the state Fire Marshall’s Office blessing to do the show. She says she isn’t sure how many people will come to the show, so she understands people may be wary about social distancing. To that, she says if anyone is uncomfortable coming, they simply don’t have to, or they can sit in their car to watch the fireworks.
