Delaware State Police investigating apparent noose found in Seaford

SEAFORD, Del. – The Delaware State Police are investigating after they say a resident at the Holly View Mobile Home Park in Seaford reported that someone left what appeared to be a noose on their property.

“In the last couple of days, I’ve seen the Delaware State Police ride up and down the road, but I just thought they were following a car,” said Marcella Nichols, a resident at the Holly View Mobile Home Park.

Authorities say on Friday they met a 59-year-old black man at the Holly View Mobile Home Park who says a stranger trespassed onto his property and tied a small white cord crafted in the way of a noose on his front step railing between the hours of 4:20 AM and 4:30 PM.

Some residents tell 47ABC this isn’t a normal situation for a typically peaceful neighborhood.

“That’s not normal out here and I mean I ain’t never seen it happen and I work for the park,” said Michael Kellum, a resident at the Holly View Mobile Home Park.

“I know everybody out here, you know what I mean, but that thing there is just crazy,” said Kellum.

Police say after interviewing neighbors in the area they have not been able to identify any potential suspects and some residents say it is a scary situation and that they just hope for peace.

“I just wish everybody could just get along and love one another no matter the color of their skin,” said Nichols.

Other residents say that whoever was behind this hate crime had nothing else better to do.

“That’s childish,” said Kellum, “They’re trying to start something and they know they can’t finish it.”

“Somebody’s bored, somebody ain’t got nothing to do and so that’s how I look at it because it’s not right really, really it’s not right,” said Kellum.

Authorities say they do not have any potential suspects at this time and they are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Police say a Delaware State Police detective has been assigned to further investigate this incident.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Shockley at the Delaware State Police Troop Four at 302-752-3812.
