Delaware organizations hosting town hall to discuss police brutality
DELAWARE – Three Delaware organizations are inviting community members to join a virtual town hall to discuss police brutality.
The League of Women Voters of Sussex County, Womens’ March Sussex and the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice are hosting the town hall. Delaware Attorney General Kathleen Jennings is one of the panelists. Organizers say they will talk about the source and consequences of police brutality and its impact on black American families, recommend solutions and develop a plan of action.
“I hear everyone talk about the need for policy. We’ve always has policy and it’s always failed. We have a constitution but it has failed in terms of black people,” says Charlotte King, the founder of the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice.
King says there are already about 200 people registered for the town hall and organizers are in the process of contacting local mayors and police chiefs, to invite them to join the conversation. At the end of the town hall, the audience will be asked to help develop an action plan.
The town hall will be hosted on Friday, June 19th at 4 pm. Click here for more details.
