SALISBURY, Md. – In Salisbury, community members now have an edible garden in the downtown area.

The garden, which is located behind the now-closed Market Street Books offers people a chance to freely enjoy all kinds of plants like blueberries, strawberries and different herbs.

The City of Salisbury, the Coastal Association of Realtors and other community members partnered to build this edible garden. The Coastal Association of Realtors provided funding for the garden with a grant.

Volunteers say this garden is a way to get people outside and bring more foot traffic to the area.

“The downtown is growing and there are so many new projects going on and the idea is to bring more foot traffic, more people downtown to this area,” said Coastal Association of Realtors President-Elect, Joni Williamson.

“So, we’re hoping that this will be one more piece to attract people and bring them to the area,” said Williamson.

Salisbury officials say there is still a lot more work to be done. They say they are planning on adding more raised garden beds and fruit trees to the garden.
