Wicomico County libraries begin phased reopening

WICOMICO CO., Md. – The county’s public libraries entered phase one of their reopening on Wednesday but they’re still not open to the public.

Right now staff are working limited hours each day to get things ready for when they can offer things like curbside pickup. They also are not accepting returns right now so they are still not charging late fees which we’re told has impacted their budgeting. As part of phase one, they’re finalizing plans for accepting returns and say they have a general idea of how they will be able to do so safely.

“The materials will come through the book drop only, more than likely. We will be quarantining them before they go back into circulation for probably seven days. But again that process is being worked on and figured out in accordance with all the high up organizations,” says Sam Gibson, the marketing and communications manager for Wicomico Public Libraries.

Officials say they do not have a specific timeline for when they will move into phase two or three but they are basing it off of Governor Larry Hogan’s Roadmap to Recovery.
